Since heat pumps work as reserve air cycle conditioners, taking air outside of your house and transferring it inside, they can be used for both heating and cooling purposes.

WARMER KIWI HOMES PROGRAMME
We are one of the larger Warmer Kiwi Homes installers.
The size of heat pump you need is dependent on the size of the room you are wanting to heat or cool, taking into account the area of windows and your local climate. Our home energy assessors can guide you on what size is best for your home and help with correct placement in a room to avoid draughts blowing directly onto you and for optimum performance.
It is important that your heat pump is installed professionally by a trusted service provider, as there are refrigerant gas and electrical considerations.
All our installations are carried out by qualified installers and registered electricians who are knowledgeable, experienced, and extremely good at what they do.
Also, all our work is installed to the Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority (EECA) standard, which meets current New Zealand standards, as required for new builds and Healthy Rental applications.

Search for your address with EECA's Map Tool and if you're in a zone that is labelled 7, 8, 9, or 10, you should be eligible. Alternatively, you may also be eligible if you're a Community Service Card holder. Referrals from DHBs may also be eligible for free insulation.
As an owner-occupier, you may be eligible for a Warmer Kiwi Homes subsidy.
