The importance of checking your insulation

Even though it feels like winter is already here based on the recent weather, it’s important to make sure your insulation is topped up to keep your home warm and also energy- efficient.

Insulation is one of the key parts to ensuring your home stays warm in the winter, but also cool in the summer, and by installing proper insulation, it can reduce the costs of heating and cooling your home by up to 30%.

Checking your insulation is crucial because over time it can become compressed or it can settle due to water damage, rodents, wear and tear or time. When insulation is compressed, little gaps are created where heat has the opportunity to escape or enter your home, therefore, reducing the effectiveness of the insulation and increasing your energy bills.

Insulation doesn’t just help control the temperature of your home, it can also improve the quality of the air in your home and reduce noise pollution. Without insulation, drafts, and air pollutants and allergens can enter your home.

The Warmer Kiwi Homes initiative means that as a homeowner, you may be eligible to have up to 80% of the cost of your insulation and heat pump covered, potentially saving you over $5,000. For more information, click here.

If your insulation is not as effective due to damage, replacing it may be required but in most cases, you can add additional material to areas with reduced insulation. We offer free home energy assessments which gives you the opportunity to find out what will make your home, warmer, drier and more energy efficient. To book an energy assessment, click here.
