Do you meet the requirements?

As landlords in New Zealand should know, it’s crucial to ensure your rental property is compliant with the Healthy Homes Standards. These have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of those living in New Zealand. By not complying with these regulations, you could face a fine of up to $4,000.

The best way to ensure you’re compliant is to book a healthy home assessment. Our assessments cover all five areas of compliance: insulation, ventilation, moisture ingress & drainage, heating, draught stopping and also covers smoke alarms.

It may seem unnecessary to book an assessment, but doing so, it can provide you with many benefits as a landlord. First and most importantly, it ensures your property is safe to be lived in. Secondly, it helps you avoid the risk of receiving costly fines that come with non-compliance. Finally, having a home that complies with the Healthy Homes Standards can also reduce the cost of power bills and preventing moisture ingress and improving drainage can prevent costly damage to the property.

We start by coming to your home and conducting an assessment of the property to identify any potential health and safety hazards that could affect tenants. We then go through the process of inspecting and testing for things such as asbestos, lead-based paint and moisture levels while also checking the insulation, heat pump and drainage.

We then provide a report with the results of your inspection. If you have not met the Healthy Homes requirements, we will let you know what needs to be done and how we can help get your rental up to standard before the deadline.

If your insulation or heat pump needs attention or replacement, you may be eligible for the Warmer Kiwi Homes grant. This is a government-funded grant that covers the cost of getting a new heat pump or insulation.* T’s and C’s apply. To find out more about the grant and to check your eligibility, click here.

At Greenside, we want to do our part in helping Kiwis live in warm, and safe homes. If you would like to book an assessment, or need assistance, get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.
